Bean Ninjas

4 minutes

When Rolando discovered that working from home was considerably better than commuting, he knew that there was no turning back. At the time, Rolando felt “stuck”, but he didn’t settle and eventually found his way to Bean Ninjas.

At Bean Ninjas, we give opportunities for our team members to grow professionally while enjoying the freedom to work anytime and anywhere. Contact us to learn more about our incredible team and how we can help you.

From Work From Home to Flexible Work

Before he began working with us at Bean Ninjas, Rolando worked remotely as a regional accountant for a nonprofit humanitarian organization with clients from the Middle East.

He liked the setup. It let him work-from-home, a luxury that he grew to enjoy. Before this, Rolando would have to journey through a 90 minute commute from his home in Bulacan to Quezon City. Needless to say, it was a welcome change.

He liked that the organization had a steady structure and offered good benefits. But as time passed, He learned that the work environment was far from ideal despite it being a work-from-home setup.

The company was understaffed and he was overloaded with work. At times, he’d even work until midnight just to finish his tasks.

So when he stumbled across Bean Ninjas, Rolando just beamed not just at the flexible work-from-home setup but also the calmer work environment.

“There’s almost no bureaucracy in accomplishing the tasks. Everything is centralized on the cloud. Team members respect personal boundaries and appreciate all forms of effort.”

It wasn’t just the work culture, either. Rolando noticed a big difference when it came to his colleagues.

“The people here in Bean Ninjas are very cooperative, very approachable.”

Strong Beginnings

When asked about his childhood, Rolando humbly shared

“When I was young, I wasn’t good at anything. I’m not very smart and I don’t have a lot of talent.”

Rolando didn’t hesitate to share his struggle learning when he was a student; memories of him failing or barely passing exams when his classmates just coasted through.

But as Rolando would learn, tough times create tough people.

His hard work and consistency eventually paid off. He became an honor student in elementary, high school, and college.

As it turns out, it wasn’t just a personal accomplishment for Rolando. It was a historic family achievement.

As the youngest in a family of seven, Rolando became the only family member to graduate college. So, when he told us about his advice to his 13-year old self, we couldn’t agree more.

“You’re doing great. Just keep going.”

One Shot

When we asked Rolando to share his biggest challenge in life so far, his trials while studying again hit hard and hit home.

For Rolando, his biggest life challenge was taking the board exam to become a certified public accountant in the Philippines back in 2019. It wasn’t just a board exam to Rolando. To him, it was his only shot.

“I could only take it once because we didn’t have any funds… I really needed to pass the board.”

Rolando knew that his family couldn’t afford to send him to review school and retake the board exam, so he did the only reasonable thing a good son would do. He gave it his all and left nothing to himself.

“I spent all my energy and time to make sure I would pass the board. Thankfully, I did.”

From the only family member to graduate college to date, Rolando also became one of only six students from his university to pass the board exam.

An Attitude of Gratitude

Goals are achieved with discipline and motivation. So we asked what keeps him motivated. Rolando answered matter-of-factly.

“I can’t live without money and without my family who’s always there to appreciate all my effort,”

When asked about his family, Rolando was grateful for his family, especially to his mom Rosalie and father Nestor, who provided everything they could so Rolando could study. Rosalie was a housewife while Nestor was a gamecock owner and gaffer.

“Since I was young, they’ve been doing everything, the household chores, up to the time I graduated and now that I am working.”

His siblings also cheer him on: Ronnie, Lorieliza, Rommer and Roldan, all proud of what their youngest sibling does to make their family proud

Keep Pushing Forward

For the resilient and goal-oriented Rolando, he’s all about looking forward to the future.

“You can’t turn back time, always move forward.”

We asked him about some items that are still on his bucket list: he wants to travel to Japan and Europe, to skydive and conquer his fear of heights, and have his own retail business.

Good luck on your future adventures, Rolando. Face your fears and take the leap!
